This kit is designed to give you an easy way to upgrade your Stingray style bass with my S3EQ based on the original US Music Man 3 band preamp. If you've been struggling to pull those classic 90's tones from your 2 band this is the answer you've been looking for.
V2 comes has two major improvements improved connectors for the pots and jack making the install even easier than it already was and can now be powered up to a crazy 27v.
It includes a concentric (stacked) pot for the extra EQ control so there’s no need for drilling a side jack or any other permanent modification to your bass and the install can be completed with basic hand tools you probably already own.
Every one of our solderless preamp kits is assembled in my small workshop using lead free solder.
*This kit is designed with beginner DIY installers in mind but please keep in mind the terminals and connectors are quite small and can be tricky to work with if you're not used to working on this kind of project.
Please read the install manual before deciding if this kit is right for you.
Included in this kit:
1 x TRGPC S3EQ Solderless Preamp.
1 x Alpha B25K Pot.
1 x Alpha B50K Pot with Centre Detent.
1 x Alpha B50K Concentric Pot with Centre Detent.
1 x Rean Neutrik Stereo Output Jack
Compatibility
This kit is directly compatible with any 4 or 5 string bass from the Sterling by Music Man SUB series including the HH models and Ray24ca.
It’s also of course perfect for your DIY Stingray style project too.
Some models of OLP basses may be compatible but none have been tested by me.
Left handed models are made to order with no surcharge.
It is NOT compatible with the Ray34/5 HH models and if I’m being honest not really worth putting in a single pickup 34 (due to being very similar circuits) but I do have another option if you’re interested in doing something different with your single pickup 34/5.

As I have the soldering skills of an angry donkey in the dark, this seemed the best way for me to give my Sterling Stingray 5 a much needed upgrade, when it arrived it was obvious the person who makes these takes it seriously, extremely well made. But what really blew me away was how much the sound was transformed, the original Sterling Stingray preamp is as inspiring as a burned spud, so I was expecting an improvement, but not to this extent. I’m honestly shocked how good this sounds, really thick low end, great mid and high, rolling off the top and mid gives a beautiful warm rounded tone. I was lucky many years ago in having an Ernie Ball Stingray 5 for a time, and I really feel like this preamp gets me very close to that great sound again. I opted to add in the micro-toggle to give me access to switching the poles and I’m glad I did, even more tone options! I’ve bought the pcb version too for future projects, let’s see if I can de-donkey my soldering.
I feel like I took a gamble and it paid off big time. I have never heard of The Really Good Pedal Co, so was a little reluctant to purchase this preamp. Initially, I was going to just order the PCB and a concentric pot, but this solderless kit is really good value with the 3 pots and jack.
After fitting this preamp and re-wiring my humbuckers to parallel across all 5 pickup selctions, I'm really digging this. Being able to scoop out the mids, or even add them for rock is so good. No more clipping when increasing the low end, plus preamp works great with the oem pickups. Which is great, because 2 high end 5 string humbuckers are damn pricey. All in all, a solid upgrade and you'd be nuts to look past this.
