The Midray solderless kit uses the same circuit as the Darkglass-inspired "Really Good Onboard Bass Preamp" project. It was originally designed as an alternative to the solderless S3EQ kit but is also suitable for any single pickup bass and if you're able to do a little extra soldering it can be used with a switch or blend control for multiple pickups. 

 

There is three options with different volume pots depending on your pickup type:

  • A250K - For most passive bass pickups including Stingray styles.
  • A500K - For if your pickup manufacturer specifies a 500K pot.
  • A25K - For most active pickups including EMG.

It includes a concentric (stacked) pot* for the extra EQ control so there’s no need for drilling a side jack or any other permanent modification to your bass and the install can be completed with basic hand tools you probably already own.

Every one of these solderless preamp kits is assembled in small numbers in my workshop here in Australia using high quality components and lead free solder.

*This kit is designed with beginner DIY installers in mind but please keep in mind the terminals and connectors are quite small and can be tricky to work with if you're not used to working on this kind of project.

 

Compatibility

Virtually any single pickup bass for a completely solder free experience or can be used with a switch or blend control for multiple pickups (see the 2 pickup version of the manual for more info).

Make sure you've got enough room in your control cavity for the PCB and battery.

*Active/passive switching is not currently possible with this model.

1 x Alpha B50K Pot with Centre Detent. T18 Shaft

1 x Rean Neutrik Stereo Output Jack

 

Tools required for install:

Wire cutters.

Wire strippers.

PH1 Phillips head screwdriver.

1.5mm flat blade screwdriver.

Small shifter or sockets.
